The finish of this route comes down a staircase: the 951 Furber Steps, right at the very end, after crossing the Blue Mountains National Park, a World Heritage site.

5 am, at Govetts Leap, in Blackheath: daylight is barely breaking when the race sets off. The route alternates cliffs and ridgelines, then climbs to its highest elevation, at Pulpit Hill.

It then joins the Six Foot Track, a historic trail, on the route's longest climb, before crossing wooded valleys.

The route finally drops toward Katoomba, down the 951 Furber Steps, to the finish at Scenic World. 44 hours 30 minutes, the final steps included.
