Part of the Camino de Santiago runs through this course, across the volcanic Velay plateau, before climbing to its highest point right near the finish.
7 pm, in Saugues: daylight still lingers when the race sets off. The route first crosses Saint-Julien-des-Chazes, then the Rouchoux gorges, on the steep-sided paths typical of the canyon.
It then joins the GR65 pilgrim path to Saint-Jean-Lachalm, skirts the Bouchet crater lake, and climbs to Mont Devès, the course's highest point.
The final descent crosses Saint-Christophe-sur-Dolaizon before the finish in Le Puy-en-Velay. 30 hours 50 minutes to reach Le Puy-en-Velay, watch in hand.

The organiser announces 140 km for the 2026 edition. Plotrek's illustrative route, redrawn on OpenStreetMap paths, measures 139 km and 5,226 m of gain. Start: Saugues; finish: Le Puy-en-Velay; on the way, Saint-Jean-Lachalm at km 71.6. The elevation loss measured on this route is 5,538 m.
30 hours 50 minutes for the 2026 edition, according to the organiser's website, read on 17 September 2026. That is the time allowed to cover the announced 140 km. Start: Saugues, at 7 pm. The time limit can change from one edition to the next; the organiser's rules prevail.
Mont Devès, at 1,416 m, at km 112.5 of Plotrek's route. The high point lies between two landmarks of the course: Alleyras (734 m, km 82.3) and Saint-Christophe-sur-Dolaizon (912 m, km 123.3). The start is at 946 m, the finish at 634 m. Altitudes measured on the route, with a terrain model.
748 m of elevation gain in one go, from km 17.5 to km 28.3 of Plotrek's route. It starts at Saint-Julien-des-Chazes (542 m). No other climb on the 139 km course is as long. Average gradient of this section: 6.9%. It accounts for 14% of the route's elevation gain.
