Reading the route
The route mixes hiking trails, perched villages, gorges and ridges. Start in Malaucène, at 311 m, at 23:59. The course climbs to Col du Comte (17.6 km, 1,003 m), then passes near Pic du Comte (18.7 km). It descends to Entrechaux (31.9 km, 284 m) then passes through Veaux (45.9 km, 335 m).
The longest climb of the route (1,134 m of gain) starts at km 51.7, after Veaux. The route crosses Col du Comte again at km 60, then keeps climbing to km 66, just after Mont Serein (65.5 km). The summit of Mont Ventoux, the route's high point at 1,896 m, comes next at km 70.2.
After the summit, the route descends to Le Sueil (80.3 km, 740 m). It passes Lac du Paty (88.2 km) then reaches Le Barroux (91.2 km, 317 m). It crosses Lafare (98.5 km) before Gigondas (106.6 km, 252 m). Next come Pas du Loup (117.1 km) and Col de la Chaine. The route returns to Malaucène (123.4 km, 310 m) for a total of 5,587 m of gain and 5,587 m of loss, within a 29:30 cutoff.
