Three starts open this point-to-point marathon: two on Blackheath Common, one near Greenwich Park, and the groups merge at Woolwich. The course then passes Charlton and Deptford before reaching Cutty Sark, km 10.4. Canada Water comes next, then Rotherhithe, km 14.8.
Past Jamaica Road, the course crosses Tower Bridge at km 20.2 and heads east along The Highway. It enters the Isle of Dogs loop by Westferry Road, then comes back through Mudchute and East Ferry Road. It then runs through Crossharbour, South Quay and Heron Quays. It reaches Canary Wharf at km 30.5, then continues toward Poplar High Street. The course finally passes Butcher Row.
After the Isle of Dogs loop, the course heads back west along The Highway, km 36.6, then Tower Hill. It follows Victoria Embankment to km 40.3, then crosses Parliament Square and Birdcage Walk. The finish is on The Mall, in front of Buckingham Palace, after 42.195 km.
