Reading the route
The start is at Porto Moniz, at 23:59. From there the route heads toward Ribeira da Janela before climbing to Fanal, at km 11.5. It crosses the Vereda das Voltas and Chão da Ribeira, then the Vereda da Terra Chã. At Estanquinhos, km 29.4, it reaches the Paul da Serra plateau. It continues past Bica da Cana to Chão dos Louros, at km 42.9.
From Boca da Encumeada, the route climbs to Pico Jorge and the Vereda dos Currais. It then drops to Curral das Freiras, at km 56.5. It climbs again past Boca das Torrinhas to Pico Ruivo, at km 67.4, Madeira's highest point according to the organiser. The route continues to Pico do Areeiro, at km 72.3, the highest point of the course, at 1,792 m.
At Chão da Lagoa, the route drops to Portela, at km 88. It then crosses Larano, Boca do Risco and the Levada do Caniçal. It passes Pico do Facho before reaching Machico. A time barrier applies at every checkpoint, for a total limit of 32 hours across the course. The finish is at the Fórum Machico, after 110 km.
