Reading the route
The Hamburg Marathon leaves Karolinenstraße at 8:30, where it meets Lagerstraße, a short way from the Heinrich-Hertz-Turm. Two starts are given: one at the Hamburg Messe, the other at Bei den Kirchhöfen. The route later brings runners back to that same spot.
The Reeperbahn comes at kilometer 1.6, the Elbchaussee at kilometer 4.6. The Fischmarkt follows at kilometer 6.6, then the course passes close to the Elbphilharmonie at kilometer 9.1.
HafenCity comes next, at kilometer 10.3, then the Speicherstadt, at kilometer 11. The Wallringtunnel arrives at kilometer 13.2; the course then reaches Ballindamm and Jungfernstieg.
The middle of the race runs on to Schwanenwik, Schöne Aussicht and Fährhausstraße, before heading north. City Nord comes at kilometer 24.3, Am Hasenberge at kilometer 27.
The way back takes Alsterkrugchaussee, Bebelallee and Eppendorfer Landstraße. Harvestehuder Weg comes at kilometer 34.6. The closing kilometers go by Gorch-Fock-Wall and Planten un Blomen once more, both seen at the start, before the finish on Karolinenstraße. The surface never varies: city asphalt the whole way round. The cut-off falls 6 hours after the final starter sets off.
