The race circles Mt. Fuji without ever climbing it: a full loop around the volcano, through lava forest and volcanic ridges, starting at dusk.
Runners set off between 5 and 5:45 pm, in four waves, from Fujisan Kodomo no Kuni. The route quickly enters the lava forest that rings the volcano, on satoyama trails.
It then alternates rocky sections and ridgelines, up to the route's highest point, reached late, past the three-quarter mark of the distance.
The route then drops toward Fujiyoshida, on a stretch of city road, to the Fujisan GX Stadium. 45.5 hours: that's the limit set for the loop around the volcano.

The organiser announces 167 km and 6,613 m of elevation gain for the 2026 edition. Plotrek's illustrative route, redrawn on OpenStreetMap paths, measures 162.7 km and 6,717 m of gain. Start: Fujisan Kodomo no Kuni; finish: Fujisan GX Stadium (Fujiyoshida); on the way, Koyo Hill at km 81.8.
45 hours 30 minutes for the 2026 edition, according to the organiser's website, read on 17 September 2026. That is the time allowed to cover the announced 167 km. On Plotrek's illustrative route, the course measures 162.7 km. The time limit can change from one edition to the next; the organiser's rules prevail.
The highest point of Plotrek's route is at 1,623 m, at km 137.3. The high point lies between two landmarks of the course: Kiridōshi-tōge (1,056 m, km 125.9) and Mont Shimo (1,316 m, km 152.1). The start is at 833 m, the finish at 1,014 m.
