Reading the route
The Osaka Marathon starts at 9:15 (wave 1) outside the Osaka Prefectural Government building, on Uemachi-suji. The course heads to Katamachi, crosses the Sakuranomiya Bridge (Ginbashi), and reaches Tenjinbashi-suji at km 4.3. It then passes Nakanoshima, facing the city hall, and reaches Yodoyabashi at km 8.6 before joining Mido-suji. The start runs in three waves.
After Namba, at km 11.4, the course follows Sennichimae-dori to Taishobashi, at km 19.4. The route forms a line with three out-and-back sections, on Minato-dori, Naniwa-suji, and Matsuyamachi-suji. The first turns back at Ichioka Motomachi, on Minato-dori. The second, on Naniwa-suji, turns back at Yanagi-dori at km 23.7, before Shitaderamachi at km 29.5. The third turns back at Koenkitaguchi, on Matsuyamachi-suji. The route also runs near Dotonbori, the Kyocera Dome, and Shitennoji.
The course returns to Uemachi-suji, then joins Katsuyama-dori, before Oikebashi at km 35.6. It crosses Imazato-suji, near Shiginohigashi 2, before entering Osaka Castle Park, at km 42.195. Markers line the route every 5 km. The finish closes at 16:15, 7 hours after the wave 1 start.
