Les Sentiers des Valdôtains climbs non-stop between the Aosta valley and the Gressoney valley, with the Matterhorn on one side and Monte Rosa on the other. It starts from Aosta at 6:30 pm, late in the day.
From Aosta, the trail climbs straight toward Blavy, then Valchourda, on high-mountain trails through the Aosta Valley.
It then crosses La Magdeleine and Cheneil, passes through Breuil-Cervinia, then crosses the highest pass of the course, at 2,978 m.
It drops toward Gressoney-La-Trinité before reaching Gressoney-Saint-Jean, through Walser villages. The late start still leaves runners 36 hours to finish.

The organiser announces 120 km and 8,200 m of elevation gain for the 2026 edition. Plotrek's illustrative route, redrawn on OpenStreetMap paths, measures 117 km and 7,800 m of gain. Start: Aosta; finish: Gressoney-Saint-Jean; on the way, Cheneil at km 61. The elevation loss measured on this route is 7,004 m.
36 hours for the 2026 edition, according to the organiser's website, read on 17 September 2026. That is the time allowed to cover the announced 120 km. Start: Aosta, at 6:30 pm. The time limit can change from one edition to the next; the organiser's rules prevail.
Colle Superiore Delle Cime Bianche, at 2,978 m, at km 84.2 of Plotrek's route. The high point lies between two landmarks of the course: Breuil-Cervinia (2,006 m, km 74.2) and Gressoney-La-Trinité (1,633 m, km 109.3). The start is at 587 m, the finish at 1,382 m.
1,797 m of elevation gain in one go, from km 0.8 to km 15.3 of Plotrek's route. Landmark on the way: Blavy (1,480 m, km 9.9). No other climb on the 117 km course is as long. Average gradient of this section: 12.4%. It accounts for 23% of the route's elevation gain.
