The start sits at the foot of a Buddhist temple, Wat Tham Chiang Dao, for a crossing through the tropical mountain forest of northern Thailand.
The race sets off at 10 am. The route climbs to its highest elevation, Doi Khun Mae Mae, over forested summits and ridgelines.
It then drops toward a string of villages, including a Hmong village, before one last climb, up Doi Suthep, near the end.
The finish is at Chiang Mai PAO Park. 48 hours to link the two towns.

The organiser announces 173 km for the 2026 edition. Plotrek's illustrative route, redrawn on OpenStreetMap paths, measures 163.6 km and 8,227 m of gain. Start: Wat Tham Chiang Dao; finish: Chiang Mai PAO Park; on the way, Ban Pha Taek at km 77.7. The elevation loss measured on this route is 8,340 m.
48 hours for the 2026 edition, according to the organiser's website, read on 17 September 2026. That is the time allowed to cover the announced 173 km. Start: Wat Tham Chiang Dao, at 10 am. The time limit can change from one edition to the next; the organiser's rules prevail.
Doi Khun Mae Mae, at 1,725 m, at km 33.9 of Plotrek's route. The high point lies between two landmarks of the course: Wat Tham Chiang Dao (432 m, km 0) and Ban Sop Kai (530 m, km 49). The start is at 432 m, the finish at 319 m.
