Reading the route
In Melbourne, in the state of Victoria, Australia, this marathon is run as a loop, on the asphalt of the city streets. Runners set off from Batman Avenue at 6:15; the loop measures 42.195 km and closes at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, next door to the start.
The course passes Flinders Street Station at kilometre 1.1, then St Kilda Road at kilometre 3.4. At kilometre 7.6 it comes closest to Albert Park Lake, which it then goes around.
The route also takes in a seaside stretch, between St Kilda and Brighton. Ormond Esplanade is passed at kilometre 25.1, a little past the halfway mark.
The way back runs along St Kilda Road, picked up again around kilometre 30, through to the finish at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, at kilometre 42. Course cutoff for the race: 7:45.
