Reading the route
The Honolulu Marathon starts at 5:00 on Ala Moana Boulevard, facing Ala Moana Beach Park. The course passes Iolani Palace at km 4, then reaches Kapiolani Boulevard. It continues through Kalakaua Avenue and Waikiki Beach at km 9.2. It then reaches Diamond Head Road, at km 12.6, home to the lighthouse.
Past the lighthouse, the route follows Kilauea Avenue before passing Kahala Mall, at km 17.7. It then joins Kalanianaole Highway, run out-and-back, to a loop at Hawaii Kai, at km 26.3. Sixteen aid stations line the full course, and there is no time limit for finishers.
From there, the route returns along Kalanianaole Highway, passing through Kahala Avenue and Waialae Country Club at km 36.4. It reaches Diamond Head Road a second time before rejoining Kalakaua Avenue for the final stretch. The finish line is at Kapiolani Park, after 42.195 km, near the park's bandstand.
