Reading the route
The New York City Marathon links Fort Wadsworth, on Staten Island, to Central Park, in Manhattan, running from one end of the city to the other. The start crosses straight onto the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, then enters Bay Ridge.
The route then strings together the neighborhoods on urban asphalt: Sunset Park, Dyker Heights, Park Slope, Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens and Red Hook, then Williamsburg and Greenpoint.
The Pulaski Bridge carries the course into Long Island City, in Queens, around the halfway point. The Queensboro Bridge then brings it back into Manhattan and the Upper East Side, before the Willis Avenue Bridge crosses into the Bronx, and the Madison Avenue Bridge returns to Manhattan, at Harlem.
From Harlem, the course heads on to Central Park, where the finish sits inside the park.
