This loop around the Mont-Blanc massif closes on itself, crossing France, Italy and Switzerland. The start, in Chamonix, is on a Friday evening, at 7:45 pm.
The trail first passes Saint-Gervais, then climbs toward Col du Bonhomme.
It then crosses the highest pass of the route, Col des Pyramides Calcaires, at 2,571 m, before dropping into Courmayeur, Italy.
The trail climbs back up to Grand Col Ferret, passes Champex-Lac and Trient, before closing the loop in Chamonix. Forty-four hours and forty-five minutes separate the start from the final cutoff.

The organiser announces 176.9 km and 10,000 m of elevation gain for the 2026 edition. Plotrek's illustrative route, redrawn on OpenStreetMap paths, measures 172.9 km and 9,916 m of gain. It is a loop, with Chamonix as start and finish, Courmayeur at km 82.5 and Champex-Lac at km 128.3.
44 hours 45 minutes for the 2026 edition, according to the organiser's website, read on 17 September 2026. That is the time allowed to cover the announced 176.9 km. Start: Chamonix, at 7:45 pm. The time limit can change from one edition to the next; the organiser's rules prevail.
Col des Pyramides Calcaires, at 2,571 m, at km 64.6 of Plotrek's route. The organiser gives the same maximum altitude for the 2026 edition: 2,571 m. The high point lies between two landmarks of the course: Col du Bonhomme (2,326 m, km 44.1) and Courmayeur (1,223 m, km 82.5).
1,669 m of elevation gain in one go, from km 22.4 to km 45.8 of Plotrek's route. It starts at Saint-Gervais-les-Bains (806 m). Landmark on the way: Col du Bonhomme (2,326 m, km 44.1). No other climb on the 172.9 km loop is as long.
