Every year, this race's route changes: rather than a fixed course, it's an orienteering-style challenge around the Mont-Blanc massif, through three countries. In Chamonix, the start is given at 8 am.
The route first climbs to Mont Buet, then Les Grandes Otanes, before reaching the Cabane du Trient and Champex-Lac, already in Switzerland.
It continues to Le Catogne, climbs to Pointe de Boveire, at 3,157 m, then crosses the Col de Crête Sèche before entering Italy, toward Courmayeur.
The route returns to France via the Col des Bouquetins, then Les Houches, to the finish back in Chamonix. The cutoff is 151 hours.

The organiser announces 300 km and 25,000 m of elevation gain for the 2024 edition. Plotrek's illustrative route, redrawn on OpenStreetMap paths, measures 293.4 km and 23,373 m of gain. It is a loop, with Chamonix as start and finish, Col de Crête Sèche at km 141.6 and Col des Bouquetins at km 237.
151 hours for the 2024 edition, according to the organiser's website, read on 17 September 2026. That is the time allowed to cover the announced 300 km. Start: Chamonix, at 8 am. The time limit can change from one edition to the next; the organiser's rules prevail.
Pointe de Boveire, at 3,157 m, at km 64 of Plotrek's route. The high point lies between two landmarks of the course: Le Catogne (2,545 m, km 78.3) and Col de Crête Sèche (2,879 m, km 141.6). The start and finish are both at 1,049 m.
1,601 m of elevation gain in one go, from km 24.6 to km 30.3 of Plotrek's route. Landmark on the way: Mont Buet (3,064 m, km 30.3). No other climb on the 293.4 km loop is as long. Average gradient of this section: 28.1%. It accounts for 7% of the route's elevation gain.
