Reading the route
The Pikes Peak Marathon climbs out and back between Manitou Springs and Pikes Peak's summit, entirely on trail. It starts at 07:00, outside City Hall on Manitou Avenue.
Manitou Springs' streets quickly give way to the Barr Trail, entering Pike National Forest, a protected area where the race runs under a special use permit. The trail passes No Name Creek and then Bailout Point early in the climb.
It keeps climbing through the forest to Barr Camp, then crosses the treeline into alpine tundra. The trail then passes A-Frame on the final stretch of the ascent.
It reaches the summit of Pikes Peak, where a cutoff is set at 10:00, before runners descend the same trail back to Manitou Springs. The finish is at the corner of Ruxton Avenue and Manitou Avenue.
