Reading the route
The start is at 23:00 in Câmpulung Moldovenesc, at 647 m of altitude, for a loop through forest, ridges and mountain streams. The course first passes near Rarău at km 13.7, at 1,619 m, then near Cheile Moara Dracului at km 19.9 and Slătioara at km 25.6. It passes near Rarău again at km 33.9 before reaching the Transrarău road at km 36.1, at 1,421 m.
The course then passes near Pietrosul Bistriței at km 48, at 1,746 m, and drops to Rusca at km 57.8, at 766 m. The longest climb of the course leaves from Rusca, around km 57.5, and gains 1,071 m up to km 66.2. It goes past Cabana Giumalău at km 64.7, at 1,552 m, and ends near Giumalău.
The course passes near Giumalău again at km 88.8: this is its high point, at 1,836 m. It then follows the Transrarău road between km 92.7 and km 94.3, and crosses the Gura Plaiului pass at km 96.6, at 1,227 m. The finish is in Câmpulung Moldovenesc, at km 112.3 and 647 m, after 6,809 m of climbing and 6,809 m of descent, within a cut-off of 32 hours 30 minutes.
