Reading the route
The race starts at 6:00, in waves, on Newlands Main Road, in Cape Town. A first aid station follows at km 3. The route runs through Claremont, then Wynberg. It continues to Diep River and Retreat. It crosses Lakeside on the way to Muizenberg, at km 15.6.
After Muizenberg, the course passes Kalk Bay before Fish Hoek, at km 20.4. It continues through Sun Valley to Noordhoek, at km 28.6. The route then reaches Chapman's Peak Drive, at km 33.1; if that road is closed, a detour runs via Ou Kaapse Weg. It continues to Hout Bay, at km 39.7.
The route reaches Constantia Nek at km 47.1, then crosses Cecilia Forest toward Kirstenbosch, at km 52.5. It finishes at UCT Rugby Fields, on the Upper Campus in Rondebosch, after 56 km. In total, 19 aid stations line the course from km 3 to km 54, starting with water, then water, cola and energy drink. The course stays open for 7 hours after the last wave starts.
