Pyrenees

Lower than the Alps, the Pyrenees make up for it with the wild, cross-border character of their trails. From the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, Pyrenean trails cross valleys that still see few visitors, between France, Spain and Andorra, on steep relief where the ridges change name at every border and the mountain huts can still be counted on the fingers of one hand.

The Grand Raid des Pyrénées links Vielle-Aure to Cauterets over the high passes of the Hautes-Pyrénées, on a course known for its technical demands. The Ultra Pirineu climbs from Bagà, in Catalonia, to the ridges of the Cadí, among limestone cliffs. The Andorra Ultra Trail Vallnord crosses the principality from end to end, between glacial valleys and summits above 2,900 metres. Val d'Aran by UTMB explores the Spanish side of the range, in a valley long left isolated. The Ehunmilak, in the Basque Country, loops 100 miles through green hills and Atlantic forests.

Every border crossed, every pass named differently on each side: the perfect material for a bilingual topographic poster.
