Reading the route

The Milford Track starts at Glade Wharf, at 207 m above sea level, at the northern end of Lake Te Anau in Fiordland. It is a single one-way crossing on foot that ends at Milford Sound: 53.6 km with 1,135 m of climbing.

The track first follows the valley to Clinton Hut, at km 4.8. It then climbs to Mintaro Hut at km 23.4, below the pass. On the way down it passes Dumpling Hut at km 35.4, then Boatshed Hut at km 40.8.

The high point, at 1,134 m, comes at km 26.1, near Omanui / McKinnon Pass (km 25.5). The longest climb gains 927 m, from km 0 to km 26.1. The track ends at Sandfly Point, at 10 m above sea level, on the shore of Milford Sound.
