The GR20 crosses Corsica from north-west to south-east, from Calenzana, at 282 m, to Conca, at 259 m. Sixteen classic stages, hut to hut, over 183 km, with 11,945 m of climbing: the trail with a reputation as the toughest in Europe.

The climbing starts with the first step: 1,290 m in one go between Calenzana and the Ortu di u Piobbu hut, at km 11. The route passes Haut Asco at km 24, then peaks at the Pointe des Éboulis, 2,573 m, at km 29, where the Monte Cinto variant replaced the Cirque de la Solitude in 2016. The Manganu and l'Onda huts follow, before the descent to Vizzavona, at km 92, the halfway point.

The southern half strings the ridges together: Usciolu hut at km 134, Asinau hut at km 155, then the Col de Bavella at km 165, beneath its needles, before the last kilometres down to Conca. In all, 11,967 m of descent answer 11,945 m of climbing.
