The Alta Via 2 starts in Bressanone, at 565 m, and crosses the Dolomites toward Feltre. Known as the one "of the Legends", it is one of the Alte Vie of the Dolomites, a range on the UNESCO list since 2009. The route covers 175.8 km with 12,769 m of climbing, mostly over passes and ridges.
Past the Rifugio Genova (km 38.1, 2,303 m), the crossing reaches the Gardena Pass at km 57.1, the Rifugio Boé at km 63.4, then the Passo Pordoi at km 68. It goes on through the Rifugio Contrin (km 83.4), the Passo San Pellegrino (km 94.7) and the Rifugio Rosetta (km 115.1), in the heart of the Pale di San Martino.
