Late, almost three-quarters of the way through, this route reaches its highest elevation, at Sunset Pass — most ultras place their summit earlier.
5 am, at East Mountain Wilderness Park, in Kaysville: that's the gun. The route climbs almost immediately to the summit of Francis Peak, on trails and game paths.
It drops then climbs back toward Big Mountain, passes Desolation Lake, then Brighton, on the approach to Sunset Pass.
The route then drops through Pole Line Pass, finishing at Soldier Hollow, inside the Wasatch Mountain State Park. 36 hours separate Kaysville from Midway.

The organiser announces 161 km and 7,315 m of elevation gain for the 2023 edition. Plotrek's illustrative route, redrawn on OpenStreetMap paths, measures 158.7 km and 6,723 m of gain. Start: East Mountain Wilderness Park (Kaysville); finish: Soldier Hollow (Midway); on the way, Lambs Canyon Pass at km 81.
36 hours for the 2023 edition, according to the organiser's website, read on 17 September 2026. That is the time allowed to cover the announced 161 km. Start: East Mountain Wilderness Park (Kaysville), at 5 am. The time limit can change from one edition to the next; the organiser's rules prevail.
Sunset Pass, at 3,183 m, at km 114.6 of Plotrek's route. The high point lies between two landmarks of the course: Brighton (2,662 m, km 109.9) and Pole Line Pass (2,724 m, km 122.5). The start is at 1,492 m, the finish at 1,684 m.
1,326 m of elevation gain in one go, from km 3.9 to km 11.1 of Plotrek's route. Landmark on the way: Francis Peak (2,833 m, km 11.2). No other climb on the 158.7 km course is as long. Average gradient of this section: 18.4%. It accounts for 20% of the route's elevation gain.
