Reading the route
Late, almost three-quarters of the way through, this route reaches its highest elevation, at Sunset Pass — most ultras place their summit earlier.
5 am, at East Mountain Wilderness Park, in Kaysville: that's the gun. The route climbs almost immediately to the summit of Francis Peak, on trails and game paths.
It drops then climbs back toward Big Mountain, passes Desolation Lake, then Brighton, on the approach to Sunset Pass.
The route then drops through Pole Line Pass, finishing at Soldier Hollow, inside the Wasatch Mountain State Park. 36 hours separate Kaysville from Midway.
